The Birth of Operation Mincemeat
Working late into the night, Charles stumbles upon Ian Fleming's 1939 Trout Memo containing 54 outlandish deception ideas, including suggestion 28: dropping a corpse dressed as an airman with fake dispatches. Despite its absurdity, the idea takes hold. When Charles presents it to MI5, he faces ridicule from Colonel Bevan, but finds an unexpected ally in Ewan Montagu, a 42-year-old lawyer who postpones his departure to New York to help develop the plan. Together, they begin working out the logistics of what will become Operation Mincemeat.
