The Murder of James Bullock (1958)
The story begins in 1958 St. Louis when 27-year-old James Bullock was chased through the city and shot multiple times by an unidentified gunman. Witnesses saw a stockily built man in a brown hat standing over Bullock's body with a gun. The young man, who had overcome childhood disabilities and lost both parents in an accident, was killed just six months after marrying Ruth. The investigation revealed Ruth's suspicious connection to her ex-husband, dentist Glenn Engelman, though his alibi initially cleared him.
- James Bullock was found shot multiple times (two bullets in head, one in shoulder, six shotgun wounds in chest) and run over on December 17, 1958
- Ruth Bullock had been married to Glenn Engelman for three years before divorcing, but continued seeing him, sleeping with him, and he even cleaned her new husband's teeth
- Engelman refused to speak to police citing potential self-incrimination, despite having an alibi from friend Thomas Johnson
- James was described as industrious and conscientious, someone who made people want to help him due to his tragic background
" There was something about him that made you want to do your best to help him. "
