Trump's Iran Crisis Spirals as Peace Talks Stall
The U.S. and Iran are negotiating a one-page memo to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and pause the war, while simultaneously exchanging fire. Trump officials claim this doesn't count as restarting the war, even as explosions rock Tehran and Iranian boats attack U.S. ships. The CIA estimates Iran still has 70% of its ballistic missiles and can withstand the naval blockade for months, making Trump's claim that he holds all the cards increasingly absurd.
- U.S. and Iran discussing one-page memo to reopen Strait of Hormuz and pause war for 30 days while negotiating permanent deal
- The proposed deal sounds remarkably similar to Obama's Iran nuclear deal that Trump pulled out of
- CIA reports Iran retains 70% of ballistic missiles, 75% of missile launchers, can withstand blockade 3-4 more months
- Even in best-case scenario, the war cost 14 American lives, thousands overall, $25+ billion, damaged global economy, and depleted U.S. weapons
" What that would do is basically you'd ship out all the uranium, the enriched uranium from Iran...But they didn't have any uranium when Donald Trump came into office because of the Iran nuclear deal. "
" It cost us 14 American lives, hundreds of now thousands of lives in Iran, in Lebanon, across the Gulf. It cost us God knows how much money, both in at least $25 billion...for absolutely fucking nothing. "
Trump Officials Gaslight America on Gas Prices
As gas prices climb to $4.55 per gallon nationwide, Trump administration officials Kevin Hassett and others deliver tone-deaf comments about the economy. They acknowledge people are maxing out credit cards on gas but claim spending is up on everything else too, effectively rubbing salt in voters' wounds. The administration is trapped by Trump's ego - they can't admit things are bad without admitting Trump failed, so they're incapable of offering solutions or empathy.
- Gas prices at $4.55/gallon nationwide, 10 cents higher than Monday, and continuing to rise
- Kevin Hassett admits people maxing out credit cards on gas, but says they're also spending more on everything else
- Trump himself said oil prices could have gone to $200-250, but even at $100 'it would have been worth it'
- The administration can't admit economic problems exist because that would mean admitting Trump failed
" Credit card spending is through the roof. They're spending more on gasoline, but they're spending more on everything else, too. "
" Do we have a plant in there? Is this what Ken Martin has been spending all the money on? I think it is more likely that – I guess there's two options when it comes to Hassett. One is he's the dumbest economist alive. "
